Mandatory face mask order to go into effect in Prince George's County


Upper Marlboro, Md. (WBFF) - Prince George's County will soon require people to wear masks or face coverings in local grocery stores and pharmacies. Saturday Angela Alsobrooks announced an executive order to that would require shoppers to cover their mouths and nose while in stores. The order would also extend to those riding the public bus system.

The store managers and employees would also be required to the promote social distancing inside and outside its buildings.

Maryland currently has 7,694 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Prince George's County has 1,923 cases -- the most in the state.

Alsobrooks said of the order: "These steps will be critical to help us flatten the curve and prevent the spread of COVID-19. We know there are people with the virus who are walking around and showing no symptoms, and these actions will prevent them from spreading it to others."

The order will go into effect Wednesday.
